Air Tools - Industry's Two Best Palm Nailers

A palm nailer is a great tool for a seemingly endless number of applications. Ideal for improvement projects around the house or yard, and perfect for both small commercial carpentry and hobby projects, a palm nailer is both simple to use and powerfully reliable. Using a professional palm nailer for your projects ensures you achieve the most professional results, so if precise, professional, and durable are characteristics you'd like to see more of in your projects, the following palm nailers might be the component you've been waiting for.

Air Power Tool

Porter-Cable builds some of the greatest pneumatic tools available in the industry today, and the PN650 palm nailer is a fine example of their standard innovation and superior quality production. With the capacity to drive 1-1/4" to 6-1/2" nails (3d to 70d) the nailer is strikingly powerful for its small size. The tool weighs only 2.5 lbs, and with an ergonomic and compact design the tool is always comfortable in your hand. Depth of drive control provides craftsmen with greater control over each application and because the tool also has a glove with a padded Velcro strap (essentially a glove that fits over the nailer with a strap that wraps over the top of your hand rendering the nailer like an extension to your body) it is simple, comfortable, and nearly effortless to use. For optimized versatility the tool comes with four different nose tips: a no-mar finish tip for for finish nails up to 3d, a magnetic tip for driving common nails from 3d to16d, a standard tip for driving common nails up to 70d, and lastly, a steel hammer tip for moldings, dowels and even automotive body work. Altogether, the palm nailer is strikingly versatile and has the compact power to drive through nearly every nailing application. The PN650 ranges in price from about 0 - 5, and although this may seem a bit spendy, the tool is truly worth every penny.

Air Power Tool

Like Porter-Cable, Senco is also know for building some of the industries finest pneumatic tools - their A20 (PC0781) hand nailer (metal connector) is no exception to this rule. This hand nailer weighs a minuscule 2.5 lbs and fits perfectly into the palm of your hand. Activated simply by light hand pressure on a surface, the nailer will not mar or dent any work surfaces, and because it's so small, the tool is ideal for joist hangers, metal straps, pole barn assembly, and other tight-space or awkward applications. Additionally, the tool is not only ultra compact and lightweight, but it is also well balanced and has a soft rubber palm pad which makes the tool incredibly simple and comfortable to use. A magnetic rail guide ensures fast and easy driving, and with a leather grip/strap similar to the PN650's, using the nailer is essentially easy and comfortable. The tool packs a lot of power for its small size driving bulk nails from 6d to 16d. Ultimately, the tool offers superior comfort, maneuverability, power, unique access into small spaces, and at only about , an affordable price tag as well.

So, in the world of pneumatic hand nailers, one of these little babies from Porter-Cable or Senco is sure to be just what the doctor ordered. With compact power and versatile operation both the PN650 and A20 (PC0781) are tremendous tools with the gusto to bring you always better results.

Reviewing Porter Power Tools

You've got to have the right tool for the job. Today, we look the very nice Porter Cable three nailer and compressor combo kit. This kit is a favorite of mine.

Air Power Tool

While some kits might be lacking in components, the Porter Cable three nailer and compressor combo kit has a finish nailer, brad nailer, stapler, narrow crown stapler, air house, fasteners, nailer oil, manuals and more.

Air Power Tool

With tools, as you probably know, you really get what you pay for. While the Porter Cable kit normally runs 0, it can be had for 1/3rd of that. Talk about getting bang for your air power tool buck.

The Porter Cable three nailer and compressor combo kit has a 120-volt, 10 amp pump. This baby provides some serious air. The portable 6-gallon air tank can also supply up to 150 psi for all those other air power tools you have. And if you don't have any other air power tools, this is a great reason to go out and get some.

The 16-gauge finish nail gun, with -inch nails, is perfect for casings and moldings. It's versatile. You can switch to 2-1/2-inch nails and secure some baseboard or moldings. It's also good for door frames and jambs. And it's just one feature of this Porter Cable combo kit. It's very nice.

Whether you're working on casings or upholstery or low voltage wiring, the Porter Cable three nailer and compressor combo kit is a must have air power tool as far as I'm concerned. Just make sure you don't pay 0 for it. It can be had for about 0-0 at the right place.

One thing is for sure, once your buy the Porter Cable three nailer and compressor combo kit, you'll wish you'd done it sooner. One construction company owner, purchased a couple of them and he says they are a great investment. As C. Dwight Barnett said, "All you need is an outlet and an idea."

Air Tools or Electric Power Tools? Which is Better?

Many people wonder if using air tools is worth the cost purchasing an air compressor, hoses, and the air tools. Why not just get an electric impact wrench or electric drill? Sometimes electric tools are a great choice but there are many reasons why air tools are superior.

Air Power Tool

First of all, you have the option of using air tools in a wet environment. You can't get electrocuted with an air tool. Feel free to drag that air hose through a puddle and stand in it with bare feet. No problem.

Air Power Tool

Compressed air won't hurt you. Also, air compressors are a portable power source. You can operate your air tool anywhere you can haul your portable air compressor.

If you are out on a remote jobsite, electricity can be a problem. However, with an air compressor and the right air tools, you are in business. Another reason is air tools are generally more robust than their electric cousins. Most air tools are built out of metal and can withstand a substantial impact.

Today, most electric tools today are almost all totally plastic. Finally, air tools are far more powerful than electric tools. If you really have some tough lug nuts to loosen, nothing beats a 1/2" impact wrench to show that nut who's the boss!

Selecting the Right Air Compressor for Your Air Tool

An air compressor is used to power air tools such as spray guns, air sanders, air wrenches, air hammers, and much more. While not as widely used, air tools are more powerful than traditional electric power tools. Air tools offer more torque and RPM than electric tools not to mention that they are significantly lighter (since they do not have their own individual electric motors) which makes them much easier to handle. Air tools are also less expensive, more versatile, and longer lasting. Overall, an air tool accomplishes a task more rapidly and effectively.

Air Power Tool

When selecting an air compressor, it is important to understand the needs of your air tool. These are some characteristics of air compressors that you should look at in order to select one that will work best for your air tool needs.

Air Power Tool

Amount of Power Needed

One of the most important factors that must be decided is the amount or power needed for your air tool. While this power can be measured in several different types of units, the most useful is the CFM (cubic feet per minute). The more common household air tools require 0-5 CFM while larger air tools such as sanders or polishers may need 10 CFM or more. The air compressor you choose depends on the type or air tool you will be using.

Gasoline vs. Electrical Air Compressor

One of the first things you have to do is decide whether you want a gasoline driven-engine or an electrical driven-engine air compressor to run your air tool. I would recommend the natural gas air compressor. Natural gas air compressors are very reliable (at the 99.9 percent reliability level), cost effective, and reduce electric energy consumption. These are all very important characteristics if you are planning on using your air compressor frequently. However, an electric air compressor can be a nice alternative if you are using it in an enclosed area where fumes are intolerable.

Size of the Tank

Think of your air compressor tank as an air tank that you would use to go SCUBA diving. The longer periods of time you are using it the larger the tank you will need. Air Tools that are for shorter use (air hammers, impact wrenches, etc.) will not need as big of a tank as air tools that need a continuous flow of air (grinders, sanders, etc.).

Type of Pump

There are two main types of pumps to choose from: a direct-drive pump and a belt-driven pump. The direct-drive pump is lightweight and is meant to last for five hundred hours. This type of air compressor is not for heavy use but more for around the house projects. The belt-driven pump lasts three times longer, has less vibration and is quieter than the direct drive model. The belt-driven pump requires an oil change every now and then, but do not let this discourage you from it since these occasional oil changes are really not that much of a hassle.

Vertical vs. Horizontal Air Compressors

A vertical air compressor usually is stationary and takes less storage. A horizontal air compressor is more portable and can be moved from project to project. The style you choose from is dependent on what your needs are with your air tools and different projects.

When selecting an air compressor you should keep these different attributes in mind. The two main things you should remember are what type of air tools you will be using and the frequency that you will be using them. If you keep those two things in mind, you should be able to distinguish what features you need in an air compressor and pick the right one for you.

Air Flange Tool and Auto Body Repair

Completing any job in the workshop is always easier if you have the right tool available. One area in which this is particularly true is body work on autos. If you want to be able to provide the best possible finish for a customer when repairing their vehicle, then you will need a full range of auto body work tools including an air flange tool.

Air Power Tool

One area where many workshops can really struggle is in providing large scale panel repair on a vehicle. In order to return an area of the body shell to its original condition, it is often necessary to replace an entire area of metal, and unless you have the tools to add metal to a frame work effectively, this will not be possible, and you will be forced to replace the entire component, such as a door or fender. This will result in a much higher cost to the client. With an air flange tool, you can use it to simply re-skin a door with fresh metal, negating the need to replace the entire door, or engage in a lengthy panel beating session.

Air Power Tool

This is designed to use the compressed air supply in your workshop to deliver a compressive force to a piece of metal in order to fasten it into place without the need for welding. By using the air flange tool you crimp one piece of metal onto another, and thanks to the enormous force that the tool can deliver, it creates a very tight fit that will last.

An all-new panel will not suffer from any of the defects that you may get in one that has been beaten back into the correct shape, and will also sit better on the car than a wholly replaced door. If the panel is cut properly to shape in advance, then actually using the air flange tool can be a great deal quicker than actually hanging a door on the car and installing all the electrics.

Of course, there are many other uses for one than reattaching panels, and the tool can be used to punch neat and clean holes in sheet metal for bolting into place, or for allowing wiring looms to pass easily into the correct place. The breadth of different jobs that you can use the air flange tool for will soon become apparent as it finds its way into your hand whenever you need a reliable tool.

There are a number of different ones on the market, and all of them are compatible with the standard compressed air supply that you find in most modern workshops, meaning that it can be integrated seamlessly into your current work shop environment, and be used immediately.

Prices for an air flange tool start from under for the pistol grip style Astro Pneumatic AST600PT model, which is a robust and reliable tool that is flexible enough to carry out most day to day jobs. While it will not handle the heaviest duty sheet metal, it, forms a smooth crimped edge that is set up ready for welding. Thanks to its relatively light weight at just two and a quarter pounds, you will be able to use if over extended periods of time without having to worry about getting tired.

Of course, by investing a little more in your tool, you can get something a little more powerful like the Mountain MTN 7378, which retails at less than at Red Hill Supply. This tool can handle punching holes through metal up to 5/16" thick, and will crimp metal up to 5/32" inch, making it ideal for body work jobs.

At the top end of the market, there are a number of specialist tools that use this technique to reliably and quickly re-skin doors. By spending around 0 on an Astro Pneumatic ASTDS1000 Pneumatic Door Skinner, you can complete the task of adding a new skin to a door to a factory standard very quickly.

If you are serious about getting the best finish for your body work repairs, then an air flange tool is the right item for you. It will cut the amount of time taken using a manually powered tool in half, and give you a much superior finish thanks to the high pressure it can apply to a task.

Power Tools History

Since the ancient Egyptians began using a hand-powered lathe centuries ago, man has striven to make arduous building and assembling tasks easier, quicker, and more efficient through power tools. We've come a long way from those sand-covered turning machines, but the end goal is no different from our desert-dwelling ancestors. Today, nearly every home in every industrialized country houses and uses power tools.

Air Power Tool

Even though the concept of the power tool has been around for a long time, it wasn't until the late 1800's when the first modern-era power tools became possible. The advent of electric motors made highly-efficient stationary and portable power tool technology a reality, and high-speed assembly lines made power tools both affordable and profitable.

Air Power Tool

The Bosch company was at the forefront of power tool technology in those early years. Founded in 1886 Germany by Robert Bosch, the company initially focused on automobile components with integrated electric parts, and was responsible for such developments as the first low-voltage magneto ignition. Before long, companies in other industrialized nations began developing the first electric power tools, and Bosch introduced its first power drill in 1932. Today, Bosch still engineers and manufactures automotive parts, and its power tool division has grown to include nearly every household and assembly tool on the market - including power drills, belt sanders, circular saws, and more. As part of the company's growth, it has acquired other successful power tool manufacturers that started during the same early 20th century era.

In 1923, American inventor Raymond DeWalt introduced the world's first radial arm saw, a sliding circular saw that could make long cuts with accuracy. One year later, he founded the DeWalt power tool company in Baltimore, Maryland; another company that has grown substantially over the last 85 years. At the forefront of portable power tool technology, DeWalt's power tools are revered by carpenters and homeowners alike for their long-life, durable cordless battery-styled power drill, circular saws, and other power tools; and the company currently manufactures over 200 types of power tools worldwide.

Founded in 1915 in Japan, the Makita Corporation has also staked its reputation on cordless, battery-powered power tools - most notably, the hand-held drill, which Makita introduced in 1978. Nine years later, the company had a full arsenal of cordless, professional-grade power tools for contractors. Today, Makita manufactures over 350 different power tools, both portable and stationary, and the pronounced teal color emblazoned on all of their tools is often mimicked by others trying to capitalize on Makita's reliable name.

The early 20th century proved to be a hotbed of power tool advancements, and many companies worked hard to develop profit-turning innovations that moved their products off store shelves and into people's homes. While the term power tool traditionally conjures thoughts of electric drills and sanders, machines like the pipe threader and utility pump are also considered power tools. This is the area the Ridgid company focused on when it was founded in Elyria, Ohio, in 1923. Still a leader in the plumbing tool industry, Ridgid now has a power tool division that focuses exclusively on contemporary power tools and has released its own saws, drills, and even air tools.

A.F. Siebert founded the Milwaukee Electric Tool Company one year later in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Known for manufacturing heavy-duty power tools, Milwaukee is best know for the 'Sawzall,' one of the most widely-used reciprocating saws in the world. Like their power tool manufacturing competition, Milwaukee currently produces portable and stationary power tools like circular saws, drills, band saws, grinders and sanders - over 500 different models in all. Unlike their competition, many of Milwaukee's power tools are released in both 120 and 230 volt models, drawing the line between household and commercial/industrial power.

Best known for the Skilsaw they invented in 1924, the Skil power tool company evolved out of the Michel Electric Handsaw Company when they entered the power tool market. Fueled by the ingenious circular saw invention, the company elevated itself to the upper echelon of the small power tool industry with jig saws, grinders, sanders, and a whole slew of handheld, cordless power tools. In 1996, the Bosch company purchased Skil but still keeps its power tools on shelves worldwide as one of the most popular power tool lines on Earth.

The Delta company has changed hands several times since it was founded by Herbert Tautz in 1919 in his Milwaukee, Wisconsin garage. Tautz focused on small tools but when Delta was purchased by Rockwell in 1945, the company made a profitable shift to the stationary tools - like planers and bench sanders - it's renowned for today. Delta isn't the only name this line has carried, however; Rockwell enveloped the company on takeover before selling it to Pentair, which re-introduced the Delta name before selling out to Black & Decker in 2004.

A veritable power tool power house, the Craftsman brand was coined by the Sears company in 1927. At first, the company primarily manufactured common hand tools like hammers and screwdrivers; but soon jumped on the power tool bandwagon and is now one of the top-selling producers of all power tools, both stationary and portable.

S. Duncan Black and Alonzo G. Decker founded the Black & Decker small machine shop in 1910 in Baltimore, Maryland; and the duo found their niche in the power tool industry by inventing the electric drill seven years later. The pistol-grip and trigger style drill became popular and is now a staple on construction sites and in households alike. Realizing the profit potential of power tools, Black & Decker has grown and acquired several other popular power tool brands, including DeWalt, Porter Cable, Delta, and Kwikset.

As industrialized nations become increasingly technology-driven, power tool production stands to increase as lightweight, powerful, and longer-lasting batteries try to match the power and reliability of corded power. Versatile contemporary models and thousands of accessories continue to make everything from woodworking to metal machining easier, more efficient, and more profitable for manufacturers, contractors, and homeowners alike. Air Power Tool

Chicago Electric power tools offer a wide range of equipment including corded and cordless equipment. They even have a few items for your workshop. Their band saw is popular with airplane kit builders. The offerings from Chicago Electric power tools include both corded and cordless drills, saws of all types, sanders and grinders. They offer both outdoor yard tools and household power tools. They even offer electric winches of various capabilities and an electric hoist. The variety that Chicago Electric power tools offer extends to some automotive related tools as well. A few bench based tools are offered also, like a compound miter saw.

Bands saws are used to cut thinner material into odd shapes with less wastage from the width of the blade. The thin flexible blade allows material to be cut with a radius curve smaller than you can get from a circular saw. With a band saw, you rotate the material as you cut it to achieve the curve you desire. It is possible to make a tool called a jig that will help you to achieve a very smooth curve reducing the amount of sanding needed to finish the piece.

The band on the band saw being thin and flexible has a tendency to break while you are cutting material. When this happens, shut the machine off and replace the blade. Usually the blade will break at the point it was welded together and will not shatter into pieces. When you purchase replacement blades, spend the money necessary to get the best you can find. The welds will be stronger and the blade will last you much longer than cheaper blades will. Be careful when pushing material into the blade. Do not wear any gloves or loose fitting long sleeves when operating a band saw. The blade has a tendency to catch such items and draw the flesh under it into the blade cutting quickly and deeply. Whenever operating any equipment that Chicago power tools offers, wear protective eyewear to protect your eyes from flying materials.

Chicago Electric power tools offers quality power tools at bargain basement prices. They have the tools you desire at the prices you want to pay. When you are on a limited budget to fill your workshop with tools to accomplish those projects you absolutely have to get done, Chicago Electric power tools are definitely the best option available. You can find these tools online or at selected stores in your area.

For those with green thumbs, a handheld trimmer might suit their fancy. This electric trimmer can be used to modify shrubs and hedges. For universities and laboratories, Husky Tools provide the heat gun, which can be used in many experiments that require hot air.
